Understanding The Planetary Cycles
Just like last prior weeks, you’ll notice I’ve included the larger view of the dates & cycle for all the major transits. I find that seeing this bigger picture—the date a cycle began, where we’ve been, and where it’s headed—helps us understand how this energy has already been moving through our lives. If you feel called, take a peek back in your calendar, journal, or even old photos and texts from the initial conjunction dates mentioned. It’s a powerful practice to see the story unfolding and watch the next piece of your personal puzzle click into place. Let me know if you find this as helpful as I do!
Now, let’s dive into the energetic currents for this week, December 22nd-28th.

Day by Day Breakdown
Astrology for Wednesday December 24th, 2025
* Venus (Sag.) closing square Neptune (Pisces)
*Venus Enters Capricorn
From Illusion to Foundation
Today, Venus takes center stage. Venus is completing a cycle of visionary discernment that started back on May 2nd, 2025, where she met up with Neptune in the sign of Aries. Today she also starts her trek in Capricorn where she will plant her feet firmly on the ground of new beginnings. It’s a day to clear the fog of old ideals and commit to building what is real, resilient, and aligned with our new set of values.
Venus Square Neptune
First, Venus at the very last degree of Sagittarius forms its closing square to Neptune in Pisces. This is the final major activation in a cycle that began with their conjunction back in May. Think of it as an audit of what is real and what is imagined.
In Sagittarius, Venus seeks truth, joy, and expansive freedom in our values, love, and finances. Neptune, however, dissolves those boundaries, making us discern what really matters and what is real. This aspect can heighten our compassion and intuition, but it can also cloud our judgment with illusion, inviting us to confront where we’ve been idealistic, escapist, or unclear in our relationships and self-worth. With Venus also still in a square to Saturn, the message is potent: discernment is an act of love. It’s time to see things—and people—as they are, not as we wish them to be, and to release any fantasy that has kept us from claiming our true value.
Venus Enters Capricorn
Immediately following this, Venus enters Capricorn. The energy shifts decisively from exploration to execution. Our focus turns to stability, integrity, and long-term results. In Capricorn, Venus asks us to build. This begins a potent period where Venus will soon conjunct both the Sun and Mars, initiating fresh cycles of committed action in love, creativity, and finances. We are being called to invest our time, energy, and affection only in what has a solid foundation and a sustainable future.
Healing Mantra:
“I release illusion with compassion. I choose to build my values on a foundation of integrity and truth.”

Healing Opportunities & Actionable Steps:
1. Discerning Between Compassion and Codependency
Aligned with: Venus in Sagittarius square Neptune in Pisces
Positive Expression: Compassionate connections in relationships, boundless empathy, seeing the divine in others, unconditional love, creative inspiration.
Shadow Expression: Idealism blinding you of red flags, sacrificing your needs to “save” someone, financial vagueness or deception, confusing pity for love, escapism through romance or spending.
Actionable Step: Practice the “Is this mine to carry?” check-in. When you feel overwhelmed by someone else’s emotion or a situation’s foggy energy, pause. Place a hand on your heart and ask: “Is this feeling mine, or am I absorbing someone else’s energy? Is my help empowering them, or enabling a dynamic that dims my light?” Write down the honest answer.
2. Releasing the “Ideal” to Embrace the “Real”
Aligned with: Closing Square of the Venus-Neptune Cycle
Positive Expression: Letting go of a fantasy with grace, accepting a relationship or situation for what it actually is, finding beauty in authentic imperfection, spiritual maturity.
Shadow Expression: Clinging to a past or future fantasy, feeling cynical or disillusioned, mourning an ideal that never existed, avoiding commitment to the present.
Actionable Step: Conduct a truth-loving-telling session in your journal. Complete this sentence: “I have been telling myself the story that ________________. The reality I see now is ________________. The gift in accepting this reality is ________________.”
3. Building Values with Integrity
Aligned with: Venus Entering Capricorn
Positive Expression: Making commitments that align with your long-term vision, investing in quality over quantity, building trust through consistency, understanding that lasting love requires a foundation.
Shadow Expression: Becoming cold or transactional in relationships, valuing status or security over genuine connection, using “practicality” as an excuse for fear of vulnerability.
Actionable Step: Define your “Non-Negotiable Value” for 2026. With Venus newly in Capricorn, choose one core value you are committed to building upon (financial autonomy, emotional trust, creative discipline). Write down one small, concrete action you will take this week to strengthen that foundation.
4. Transforming a Wound into a Boundary
Aligned with: Venus trine Chiron in Aries
Positive Expression: Using past hurts to inform clear, compassionate limits, advocating for your needs from a place of healed strength, turning personal sensitivity into a protective wisdom.
Shadow Expression: Building walls instead of boundaries, reacting from a place of old pain, using independence to push away healthy intimacy.
Actionable Step: Craft a “Healed Boundary” statement. Identify a recurring hurt (“I feel drained when my time is disrespected”). Now, frame it not as a complaint, but as a clear, loving boundary rooted in self-worth: “To honor my energy, I now communicate my availability in advance and gracefully decline last-minute requests that don’t align with my priorities.” Speak it aloud.
Psychology Fact:
Psychology Fact: Strategic Optimism vs. Defensive Pessimism & Affective Forecasting
The brain is prone to affective forecasting errors, consistently overestimating the intensity and duration of future emotional reactions (both positive and negative). “Positive illusions” (mild self-enhancing biases) can support mental health and motivation, but under Venus-Neptune aspects, they can escalate into defensive denial or magical thinking, where fantasy overrides reality checks. Conversely, strategic realism—grounded in what psychologist Julie Norem terms “defensive pessimism”—involves setting low expectations while proactively planning for challenges. This harnesses anxiety as motivational energy, leading to thorough preparation and often better outcomes than unchecked optimism. Relevance: Venus square Neptune directly pits idealism against reality. The shadow is clinging to a positive illusion (“It will all work out magically”) to avoid the discomfort of a difficult truth or necessary ending. This bypasses Saturn’s call for accountable, grounded action. Employ a realistic & best-case balanced scenario. For a key relationship or value-based decision, first engage in strategic realism: Imagine it is one year from now and the endeavor has failed. Write down all the plausible, realistic reasons how this could’ve happened. This neutralizes over-idealistic forecasting errors and identifies vulnerabilities in the plan. Then, from that cleared space, outline the actionable steps (Saturn) needed to prevent those failures from happening. This process honors Neptune’s hope by building a realistic pathway to it, transforming wishful thinking into a solid strategic plan. In the article “Pessimism vs. Optimism: How Mindset Impacts Wellbeing,” the distinctions between these outlooks—and the grounded alternative of realism—are examined. It provides a framework for synthesizing these perspectives to courageously and persistently navigate life’s many challenges.
Shadow Journal Prompts:
- The Truth Beneath the Fantasy: Venus square Neptune asks: where have I preferred a beautiful story to an honest truth?
Look at a current situation in your relationships, finances, or self-worth. What is the “beautiful story” you’ve been telling yourself about it? Now, with gentle honesty, write down the plain, unvarnished truth of the situation. What do you see when you remove the filter of hope or illusion? What is one small action you can take to honor this reality today? - The Foundation of My Worth: Venus entering Capricorn invites us to build lasting value.
If your sense of worth and love were a structure, what materials is it built on right now? Are they transient materials like others’ approval, achievements, or escapism? What would it mean to rebuild its foundation with the enduring materials of self-respect, integrity, and authentic connection? Describe this new, solid foundation in detail. What is the first “cornerstone” you need to lay? - The Gift in the Disillusionment: The closing Venus-Neptune square marks an ending of a cycle of ideals.
Reflect on a recent disappointment or moment of clarity where an ideal faded. Instead of framing it as a loss, explore: What did this experience ultimately teach or protect me from? What strength did I discover in myself when the fantasy fell away? How has this “dis-illusionment” actually make space for something more real and resilient to grow? - The Boundary as an Act of Love: Integrating Venus’s tension with Saturn (responsibility) and Neptune (compassion).
Write a letter to yourself from the perspective of your most compassionate, wise future self. How does this future self describe the loving, necessary boundary you are learning to set right now? What are they grateful you protected? How did this act of self-honesty ultimately create more space for genuine connection and peace? - Planting a Seed for Legacy: Venus in Capricorn initiates cycles focused on long-term impact.
Looking ahead at the next year, what is one seed you want to plant today in the realm of love, values, or creative expression? This isn’t about a quick bloom, but a slow-growing tree. What consistent care (patience, discipline, trust) will this seed require from you? How do you imagine this choice contributing to the legacy of your soul’s journey?
Astrology for Saturday December 27th, 2025
* Mercury (Sag.) closing trine Chiron Rx (Aries)
The Courage of Honest Healing
Today, the energy offers a gentle but potent current for our most inner work. It’s a day to speak about our wounds with courageous optimism, while also embracing the sacred, non-linear reality of the healing path itself.
Mercury Trine Chiron Retrograde
Mercury in Sagittarius forms its closing trine to Chiron Retrograde in Aries. This brings a cycle of mental and communicative healing—one that began back on May 7th—to a point of deep integration. Think of it as a supportive conversation between your inner truth-teller (Mercury in Sagittarius) and your inner healer (Chiron in Aries). This energy inspires uplifting insights and encourages you to share your story with vulnerability, which in itself is a profound act of healing medicine.
Realism vs. Expansion
However, there’s a crucial layer we must honor. This Mercury is ruled by Jupiter, currently retrograde in sensitive Cancer. That Jupiter forms a square to Chiron. This highlights the tender tension between our hopeful expectations for emotional resilience (“I should be over this by now”) and the present-moment reality of where we actually are.
You might feel a push-pull today. One part of you feels optimistic and ready to declare a wound healed. Another part might feel a familiar ache resurface, as if to say, “Wait, we’re not done here.” Please hear this: this is not backtracking. This is the process.
The Healing & Honoring the Spiral
The surrounding planetary aspects—including an active Aries Moon squaring the Sun, Venus, and Mars—create friction between our identity, values, and actions. They are here to remind us that healing isn’t a straight line from wound to wisdom; it’s a spiral. We circle back, not to repeat the pain, but to recover another layer of truth from it with more compassion and strength.
So today, let your words be both hopeful and honest. Let your self-talk be encouraging yet radically realistic. The gift is the clarity to see how far you’ve come, while the surrounding energies grant the humility to honor exactly where you stand—knowing both are necessary for genuine, integrated growth.
Healing Mantra:
“I honor my healing journey without a timeline or judgment. My vulnerability is my strength, and my honest pace is still progress.”
The Mercury-Chiron Cycle
The Mercury–Chiron cycle explores how thought, communication, and perception (Mercury) engage with wounds and healing (Chiron). Its purpose is to transform painful narratives into wisdom, using dialogue, reflection, and insight as tools for resilience and authentic self-expression.
| Date | Aspect | Signs | Phase |
|---|---|---|---|
| May 7, 2025 | Conjunction | Aries | Cycle Begins: Mental focus on a core wound. |
| Jun 24, 2025 | Opening Square | Cancer/Aries | Challenge: Emotional security vs. wound awareness. |
| Oct 3, 2025 | Opposition | Libra/Aries | Clarity: Relationships mirror healing lessons. |
| Dec 27, 2025 | Closing Trine | Sagittarius/Aries | Integration: Optimistic insight & honest reflection. |
| Jan 16, 2026 | Closing Square | Capricorn/Aries | Application: Grounding insights into new structures. |
| Feb 3, 2026 | Closing Sextile | Aquarius/Aries | Healing: Sharing wisdom for collective healing. |
| May 1, 2026 | New Conjunction | Aries | New Cycle: A wiser perspective on the wound. |
Healing Opportunities & Actionable Steps:
1. Speak Your Healing
Aligned with: Mercury in Sagittarius trine Chiron in Aries
Positive Expression: Gaining a liberating new perspective on an old story, sharing your truth with courage, finding the “lesson” in a past wound, inspiring others through honest communication.
Shadow Expression: Using expansive, philosophical language to spiritually bypass real pain (“It was all a lesson, so it doesn’t hurt”), talking about healing instead of feeling it, overwhelming others or yourself with unprocessed optimism.
Actionable Step: Practice “The Chapter” Reframe. Choose one past hurt. Write or speak aloud: “The old story I told myself was… The wiser, more compassionate truth I see now is… This experience ultimately strengthened my ability to…” This turns a wound into integrated wisdom, not as a bypassed event.
2. Setting Realistic Healing Expectations
Aligned with: Jupiter Rx in Cancer square Chiron
Positive Expression: Nurturing your emotional growth with patience, finding security in the healing process itself, understanding that resilience is built slowly.
Shadow Expression: Feeling like a “failure” for not being “over it” yet, using the past as an excuse to avoid present growth (Cancer Rx), emotional overindulgence that stalls progress.
Actionable Step: Conduct a “Progress Scan,” not a “Completion Test.” Instead of asking, “Am I healed?” ask: “Compared to a year ago, what is one small way I now handle this trigger with more awareness or compassion?” List 3 micro-shifts. This grounds Jupiter’s desire for big growth in Cancer’s reality of tender, incremental care.
3. Leaning into the Non-Linear Spiral
Aligned with: The Closing Phase of the Mercury-Chiron Cycle
Positive Expression: Understanding that revisiting pain is part of integration, trusting the timing of your unique journey, releasing shame for having “setbacks.”
Shadow Expression: Interpreting the feeling of pain as failure, abandoning helpful practices because “they didn’t work,” feeling doomed to experience pain forever.
Actionable Step: Draw Your Healing Spiral. On a page, draw a spiral. At the center, note the initial wound. At a point midway, write a lesson you learned earlier. At today’s point on the spiral, write the current layer you’re processing. This visual proves you are not in the same place; you are circling the same core from a higher, more informed vantage point.
4. Channeling Frustration into Action
Aligned with: Aries Moon squaring Sun/Venus/Mars
Positive Expression: Using the friction between how you feel (Moon) and what you value/want (Venus/Mars) to clarify your non-negotiables, taking brave, small actions to honor your needs.
Shadow Expression: Impulsive reactions, angry self-criticism for not being “better,” projecting frustration onto relationships, giving up in defiance.
Actionable Step: Use the “Frustration” Prompt. When you feel the push-pull of irritation, ask: “What is this frustration trying to PROTECT me from? What boundary or value is it asking me to UPHOLD?” Then, channel the Aries/Mars energy by taking one clear, small action (“I need quiet, so I will take a 10-minute walk alone”) to honor that insight.
Psychology Fact:
Psychology Fact: Affect Labeling & The Somatic Marker Hypothesis
“Name It to Tame It” is a neuroscientific strategy where labeling an emotion (“This is frustration”) reduces activity in the amygdala (the fear/alarm center) and increases activity in the prefrontal cortex (the reasoning center). The Somatic Marker Hypothesis explains how emotions (like the Aries Moon’s frustration) are bodily signals guiding decision-making. Unlabeled, they drive impulsive reactions. Labeled, they become data for intentional action. Relevance: The square from the Aries Moon to Mars/Venus creates somatic frustration. The shadow is acting out impulsively or turning anger inward as self-criticism. Use the “Emotion → Data → Directive” protocol. When agitated, pause. 1) Label: “I feel frustrated.” 2) Identify Data: “This feeling is signaling that a boundary is crossed, or a need is unmet.” 3) Create a Directive: “Therefore, one small, respectful action I can take is…” This transforms raw emotional energy into a clear, empowered step. The article “Exploring the Somatic Marker Hypothesis for Better Decisions” illuminates how this theory clarifies the profound role our emotions play in shaping our choices.
Shadow Journal Prompts:
- The Story I’m Ready to Rewrite: Mercury in Sagittarius loves a liberating narrative, while Chiron holds the old script. Look at a recurring personal story that carries pain or limitation. First, write it down exactly as you’ve always told it. Now, from your current, wiser perspective: What is one element of that story that you now see as incomplete or misunderstood? How can you reframe this chapter not as a tale of victimhood, but as one of resilience, a crucial choice, or a lesson that forged a strength you now possess?
- The Expectation vs. The Reality: Jupiter retrograde in Cancer square Chiron highlights the gap between our growth ideals and our emotional reality. Identify one area of healing where you feel you “should” be further along. Describe the idealized, “finished” version you’ve been expecting of yourself. Now, with radical compassion, describe the true, current landscape of your feelings around it. What small, tender step—not a giant leap—does the reality of your journey actually need from you today?
- The Gift in the Recurrence: The closing trine suggests we are spiraling back to integrate the healing, not regress from it. Think of a wound or trigger that has resurfaced recently. Instead of judging it, explore: What might this recurrence be trying to give me that I wasn’t ready to receive the last time? Is it offering a chance to practice a new boundary, to feel an unfelt emotion, or to apply a lesson with more grace and understanding? What is the hidden upgrade in this latest visit?
- The Conversation with My Younger Self: Chiron in Aries connects to our core identity and primal wounds. Imagine sitting with the version of you who first experienced this core hurt. As your present, wiser self, what do you see in them that they couldn’t see? What strength were they already demonstrating in their survival? What compassionate truth do you most need to tell them about their worth, their future, or the meaning of what happened? Write the dialogue.
- Mapping My Healing Spiral: This energy honors the non-linear path of integration. Draw a simple spiral on your page. At the very center, name the original wound or learning point. As you move outward along the spiral, mark key moments where you circled back to this theme. At each point, note not just the pain, but the new insight, tool, or layer of strength you gained that time. What pattern of growth does this map reveal? How does seeing your journey this way change your relationship to it?
