The Astrology for May 4th – 10th, 2026: The Week of Shadow Work—Mars Square Jupiter, Mercury Square Pluto & Pluto Retrograde

A Weekly Astrological Look Ahead with Soul-Work Journal Prompts, Healing Opportunities, as well as Actionable Steps to Work with the Energy.

Hey Soul Seekers,

I hope you’re doing well after this past week’s intense Scorpio Full Moon. That kind of emotional depth doesn’t just disappear overnight, so as the Moon wanes, give yourself grace. We’re moving toward the steady, grounding energy of the Taurus New Moon. Still a perfect time to continue the shadow work, especially if the past few days stirred something up for you.

This week continues that theme of inner exploration, but with more fire and friction. On Monday, Mars squares Jupiter—expect heightened energy, reactivity, and the urge to push forward fast. The key is channeling that fire into something productive rather than letting it spill out as tension or impatience. Move your body. Pause before responding. Choose intention over impulse.

Tuesday brings Mercury square Pluto—a transit designed to dig deep into your psyche. Again: shadow work. This is the energy of asking “Why do I really think or react this way?” It can feel uncomfortable, but staying open-minded and curious rather than defensive will make all the difference. Understanding the deeper “why” behind our patterns is one of the most liberating things we can do.

Wednesday is the real gem. Mercury sextiles the North Node as Pluto stations retrograde. I personally love this energy. Pluto retrograde makes internal transformation more accessible, and with Mercury supporting the North Node, growth becomes tangible, especially if you’ve felt stuck or rigid in your thinking. You can finally see the underlying behavior that keeps you looping—and start to choose differently.

Then Sunday. What a beautiful way to end the week. The Sun sextiles Jupiter on Mother’s Day (Happy Mother’s Day to all my Mama’s out there), bringing warmth, grounded optimism, and a genuine sense of support. Whatever you focus your energy on will grow, so focus on compassion, curiosity, and presence. Release expectations. Let yourself feel grateful for the simple things—a kind word, a quiet moment, a breath of fresh air.

I hope this week brings you clarity, healing, and at least one moment of unexpected peace. Take care of yourselves.

As a friendly reminder, with Saturn, Neptune and all the energy piling up in Aries, time may feel like it’s moving faster or scattered, so focus on joy, purpose, personal development, and what truly nourishes you. I’m writing a more streamlined format for a bit, as I balance a fuller workload; I appreciate your patience and support as I temporarily pause any new consultations to honor my current commitments.

Astrological Breakdown for The Week

The Astrology for May 4th – 10th: The Week of Friction, Fertile Ground & Quiet Growth

Welcome to a week that holds both fire and stillness, tension and tenderness. We begin with Mars squaring Jupiter—a surge of impulsive energy that asks us to channel our fire without burning what we’re trying to build. Tuesday brings a mental pressure point as Mercury squares Pluto, pushing us to question our assumptions and transform how we think. By Wednesday, the energy shifts dramatically: Mercury sextiles the North Node as Pluto stations retrograde, creating fertile ground for deep internal work—weeding the garden of the mind so something new can grow. The week closes with a warm, hopeful sextile between the Sun and Jupiter, reminding us that steady, grounded optimism is its own kind of magic. This is a week of contrasts: reactive and reflective, intense and integrative.

Monday, May 4th: Mars (Aries) Closing square Jupiter (Cancer)

On Monday, May 4th, Mars in Aries forms a closing square to Jupiter in Cancer, turning the emotional and energetic volume all the way up . This is the kind of transit that doesn’t whisper—it surges. Mars in Aries is pure fire: instinctive, bold, fast, and ready to act. Jupiter in Cancer is emotional expansion: big feelings, big beliefs, big reactions. When these two collide in a closing square, the energy becomes a pressure point—one that pushes us to integrate what we’ve learned about courage, confidence, emotional honesty, and impulse over the past several weeks. With the Moon in Sagittarius (Jupiter’s sign) and Jupiter in Cancer (the Moon’s sign), there’s a mutual reception happening behind the scenes. This means the emotional and philosophical layers of the day are feeding into each other, amplifying the desire to grow, explore, and assert what we believe to be true. But that amplification can go either way—into wisdom or into reactivity.

What it feels like: This energy feels like adrenaline humming under your skin. You may wake up with a sense of urgency, like something needs to happen now. There’s passion, restlessness, and a strong desire to move, act, or speak. You might feel more reactive, more certain of your viewpoint, or more easily irritated. It’s the emotional equivalent of a spark hitting dry grass—things can ignite quickly if we are not careful. But it can also feel exhilarating, motivating, and full of possibility if channeled well.

Positive expressions: This transit can give you the courage to take a leap you’ve been avoiding. It fuels motivation, enthusiasm, and the willingness to break out of limiting beliefs or emotional patterns. You may feel more confident, more willing to advocate for yourself, or more inspired to pursue something meaningful. It’s excellent for physical activity, creative breakthroughs, or taking bold steps toward a goal.

Shadow expressions: The same fire can burn if it’s not directed. Impulsiveness, overreaction, and self‑righteousness are common under this transit. You may feel so certain of your perspective that you dismiss others without realizing it. Bluntness can come across as aggression. Overconfidence can lead to taking on too much or acting without thinking things through. Emotional reactions may be louder, sharper, or more dramatic than usual.

The invitation: This transit asks you to stay curious rather than convinced or dogmatic in your viewpoint. Before you speak or act, pause long enough to ask yourself: “Am I responding, or am I reacting?” Movement is your ally—walk, stretch, dance, run—anything that helps release excess fire from the body. If someone else is reactive, remember: their intensity does not require you to match it. You get to choose how you use this fire. It can burn bridges, or it can fuel breakthroughs. The energy is powerful, but you are the one steering it.

Healing Opportunity & Actionable Step: Mars (Aries) Closing square Jupiter (Cancer)

Channeling Fire Without Burning the Bridge
Aligned with Mars square Jupiter — fiery momentum meets emotional expansion.
Positive Expression: Courage to act, motivation to grow, breaking out of limiting beliefs. Passion that fuels meaningful change.
Shadow Expression: Impulsiveness, self-righteousness, overreaction. Bluntness or dismissal of other perspectives. Acting before thinking.
Actionable Step: Practice the “Pause & Redirect”. When you feel the urge to react or push your point, pause. Take three breaths. Ask: “Is this fire building something or burning something?” Then channel the energy physically—walk, stretch, step outside. Move the energy through your body before you speak. Then respond from intention, not impulse.

Tuesday, May 5th: Mercury (Taurus) opening square Pluto (Aqua.)

On Tuesday, Mercury in Taurus forms an opening square to Pluto in Aquarius, creating a moment where our thinking, communication, and mental patterns are pushed to evolve. This is the first real tension point since their conjunction back on January 22nd, meaning something that began then now reaches a moment of pressure, clarity, or confrontation. Mercury in Taurus thinks slowly, patiently, and practically—it wants stability, grounded logic, and conversations that feel steady and predictable. Pluto in Aquarius, on the other hand, wants depth, truth, psychological honesty, and transformation. When these two energies collide, the mind is asked to stretch beyond its comfort zone. Old thought patterns, assumptions, or communication habits may be challenged. Conversations may feel heavier or more emotionally charged. And because Mercury is ruled by Venus in Gemini—and Venus is ruled by Mercury—there’s a mutual reception happening, meaning the mind and the heart are in a private dialogue, trying to help each other grow even if the process feels uncomfortable.

What it feels like: This transit feels like hitting a mental pressure point—something small suddenly feels bigger, sharper, or more emotionally loaded. A simple comment may stir deeper feelings than expected. You may feel the urge to dig for answers, clarify misunderstandings, or get to the bottom of something that doesn’t feel quite right. There can be a sense of defensiveness, suspicion, or the temptation to assume the worst. It’s easy to feel misunderstood or to misinterpret someone else’s tone or intention. The mind wants stability, but Pluto pushes for truth, and that tension can feel intense.

Positive expressions: This energy can bring powerful insight, mental breakthroughs, and a deeper understanding of your motivations. It’s excellent for introspection, research, therapy, journaling, or any conversation that requires honesty and depth. You may uncover hidden patterns, transform outdated beliefs, or finally understand why you think or react the way you do. Communication can become more meaningful, intentional, and psychologically aware.

Shadow expressions: The same intensity can also create tension, stubbornness, or reactivity. Misunderstandings may arise easily. You may feel defensive, resistant to change, or tempted to cling to being “right.” Hidden motives—yours or someone else’s—may surface, explore that further, ask questions of understanding. There can be a tendency to jump to conclusions, assume the worst, or read too deeply into something without checking the facts.

The invitation: Ask questions before you assume. Replace “That’s wrong” with “Help me understand.” Stay curious rather than certain. Don’t assume you know the full story—Pluto often reveals things slowly, layer by layer. This transit wants to transform your thinking, but it works best when you stay open rather than reactive. If you approach the day with curiosity instead of defensiveness, you’ll uncover something meaningful about yourself—and about how you communicate and connect. Breathe before you respond. Let the truth emerge rather than forcing it.

Healing opportunity & Actionable Step: Mercury (Taurus) opening square Pluto (Aqua.)

Questioning Before Assuming
Aligned with Mercury square Pluto — mental pressure and transformative thinking.
Positive Expression: Powerful insight, psychological depth, honesty in communication. Breaking through old thought patterns.
Shadow Expression: Defensiveness, jumping to conclusions, clinging to being “right.” Misunderstandings fueled by assumption.
Actionable Step: Ask a “Curiosity Question.” Before you react to a comment or situation that feels tense, ask: “Help me understand what you mean by that?” or “What am I missing here?” Listen to the answer without preparing your rebuttal. Journal afterward: “I stayed curious. I learned ________.” Curiosity is the antidote to assumption and the gift in connecting.

Wednesday, May 6th: Mercury (Taurus) opening sextile North Node (Pisces); Pluto Stations Retro. (Aqua.)

On Wednesday, Mercury in Taurus forms an opening sextile to the North Node in Pisces while Pluto stations retrograde in Aquarius, creating a deeply fertile, introspective, and transformative day. This is one of those rare moments where the universe feels like it’s slowing you down just enough for something important to take root. Mercury in Taurus brings steady, grounded thinking—thoughts that move slowly enough for you to actually hear them. The North Node in Pisces brings intuition, surrender, and a nuanced direction. Together, they create a blend of practical clarity and soulful guidance. Add Pluto stationing retrograde, and the energy turns inward, asking you to examine the deeper layers of your psyche, your habits, and the emotional patterns that shape your choices. It’s a day where the inner world becomes louder than the outer one, and where growth happens quietly but powerfully beneath the surface.

What it feels like: This energy feels like turning the soil of your inner world—messy, revealing, but incredibly fertile. You may feel quieter, more reflective, or more aware of your emotional patterns. There’s a sense that something inside you is preparing to grow in a new direction, even if you can’t fully name it yet. You might feel heavier than usual, but not in a burdensome way—more like you’re processing something meaningful, something that needs your attention. It’s the kind of day where you naturally slow down, breathe deeper, and listen more closely to what’s happening beneath the surface.

Positive expressions: This transit supports grounded understanding, emotional healing, and meaningful inner growth. It helps you release old habits that limit you, especially patterns rooted in perfectionism, self‑criticism, or overthinking. You may feel more connected to your intuition and more aware of what truly matters. Practical thinking meets soulful guidance, making it easier to take steps that feel aligned with your deeper purpose. Consistency, compassion, and finding deep understanding can lead to real progress today.

Shadow expressions: The energy can feel heavy, introspective, or emotionally intense. Old fears or self‑critical patterns may resurface. You may feel discomfort around letting go of familiar habits or the urge to control what you’re actually being asked to release. Pluto retrograde can stir vulnerability, uncertainty, or the sense that something is shifting beneath the surface. We may want to over-control what is happening because deep down it makes us feel safe.

The invitation: This is the psychological doorway. Weed the garden of your mind. Release perfectionism, self‑criticism, and the belief that you must control everything. Pluto helps you see the deeper patterns behind these habits so you can choose differently. Be patient with yourself. What surfaces today isn’t here to hurt you—it’s here to be seen, understood, and finally released. Stay open, stay curious, and be compassionate with yourself in this growth. This is a moment of deep internal alignment, and if you honor it, you’ll feel the beginnings of real transformation taking root.

Healing opportunity & Actionable Step: Mercury sextile North Node; Pluto Stations Retro.

Weeding the Garden of the Mind
Aligned with Mercury sextile North Node (growth) and Pluto retrograde (shadow work).
Positive Expression: Inner understanding, emotional healing, releasing perfectionism and self-criticism. Fertile ground for transformation.
Shadow Expression: Heaviness, old fears surfacing, discomfort with letting go. Controlling what needs to be released.
Actionable Step: Create a “Weed & Seed” list. Draw two columns. Left: “Mental weeds to pull (self-criticism, overthinking, control).” Right: “What I want to grow instead (trust, belief, patience, self-compassion).” For each weed, write one action to pull it today. For each seed, write one action to water it. Take one weeding action and one seeding action. This honors Pluto’s depth and the North Node’s growth.

Sunday, May 10th: Sun (Taurus) closing sextile Jupiter (Cancer)

On Sunday, the Sun in Taurus forms a closing sextile to Jupiter in Cancer, creating a warm, hopeful, and deeply supportive energy that helps us feel more confident in our growth and direction. A closing sextile is a moment of integration—where the work, healing, or effort you’ve been putting in begins to show signs of payoff. The Sun in Taurus brings steadiness, patience, and a grounded sense of self. Jupiter in Cancer brings emotional abundance, intuition, and the desire to nurture what matters. Together, they create a gentle but powerful current of optimism—one that doesn’t shout, but reassures. It’s the feeling of something quietly unfolding in your favor, not because you forced it, but because you’ve been tending it with care and compassion.

What it feels like: Warm, hopeful, encouraging. Like a breath of fresh air after a long stretch of effort. You may feel grounded, emotionally open, and more willing to believe that good things are unfolding. This isn’t dramatic or overwhelming—it’s a quiet, steady sense that you’re on the right track. A soft inner “yes” that helps you trust your path.

Positive expressions: This transit brings optimism, emotional abundance, confidence, and steady progress. It supports trusting that your efforts are paying off, even if the results are still forming. You may feel more aligned with what you’re building and more capable of sustaining it. It’s a beautiful moment for goal‑setting, creative expansion, or simply appreciating how far you’ve come.

Shadow expressions: Because Jupiter expands everything, there can be a tendency to overextend, overpromise, or assume everything will work out without the sustained effort. Indulgence or overconfidence may creep in if you’re not mindful. You might say “yes” to too much because everything feels possible in the moment.

The invitation: Lean into trust, but keep your feet on the ground. Take slow steady, intentional steps toward your goals. Allow yourself to feel supported by the growth you’ve already set in motion. This is a moment to rest in the knowing that something is unfolding—not because you’re pushing, but because you’ve been nurturing it all along. Celebrate how far you’ve come, even if the destination isn’t fully visible yet. You’re building something real, one steady step at a time.

Healing opportunity & Actionable Step: Sun (Taurus) closing sextile Jupiter (Cancer)

Receiving the Gentle “Yes”
Aligned with Sun sextile Jupiter — grounded optimism and steady growth.
Positive Expression: Hope, confidence, emotional abundance. Trust that efforts are paying off. A sense of being supported.
Shadow Expression: Overextending, overpromising, assuming everything will work out without sustained continued effort.
Actionable Step: Practice “Harvest Reflection.” Look at how far you’ve come. Journal: “What have I been tending—quietly, steadily—that is now beginning to show signs of growth?” Not loud breakthroughs, but small shifts: a boundary held, a moment of patience, a new thought replacing an old one. Then place a hand on your heart and say: “I receive this gentle yes. I trust the slow unfolding.” Let the hope land in your body, not just your mind.

Healing Mantra for the Week:

“I channel my fire with intention. I question my certainty with curiosity. I weed the garden of my mind. I trust the slow, steady unfolding of my becoming.”

Psychology Fact:

The Fundamental Attribution Error & The Assumption Trap
The fundamental attribution error (Ross) describes our tendency to attribute others’ difficult behavior to their character (“they’re rude”) while attributing our own difficult behavior to circumstances (“I’m having a bad day”). This bias operates automatically, creating misunderstandings and defensiveness. The antidote is perspective-taking—deliberately asking “What might be going on for them?”—which activates the brain’s theory of mind network and reduces defensive reactivity. Relevance: Mercury square Pluto creates mental tension and the urge to assume the worst. The shadow is jumping to conclusions. The healing is to ask questions before assuming.
Practice “The Perspective Pause.” When you feel a defensive assumption rising, pause and ask:
“What else might be true here? What might I be missing?”
Then ask the person: “Can you help me understand?”
Journal: “I assumed ________. The other possibility I didn’t consider was ________.”
This simple question disrupts the attribution error and opens the door to actual understanding.

Shadow Journal Prompts: (for the whole week)

  1. Where Is Certainty Closing the Door on Growth? Mars square Jupiter amplifies confidence to the point of self-righteousness.
Think of a recent moment when you felt absolutely certain—about an opinion, a decision, or another person’s intentions. Looking back, was that certainty protecting you or blocking you? What might you have missed because you were so sure? What would it feel like to hold your beliefs with an open hand, just for today?
  2. The Question I’m Afraid to Ask. Mercury square Pluto pushes us to dig beneath the surface of our thoughts and conversations.
What is one question you’ve been avoiding—in a conversation, with yourself, about a pattern you keep repeating? What are you afraid you might discover if you asked it? And what might become possible on the other side of knowing?
  3. The Pattern I’m Ready to Stop Defending. Pluto retrograde invites shadow work; Mercury’s sextile to the North Node asks us to release old mental habits.
What is one self-sabotaging pattern—perfectionism, overthinking, self-criticism, control—that you’ve been protecting, perhaps by calling it “just how I am” or “what keeps me safe”? If you stopped defending it, even for a moment, what might you see about where it came from and what it’s actually costing you? What would you choose instead?
  4. The Quiet “Yes” I’ve Been Overlooking. Sun sextile Jupiter brings warm, grounded optimism and a sense of steady progress.
Look back at the past few weeks. Where have you been growing—slowly, quietly, perhaps without noticing? Not the loud breakthroughs, but the small shifts in how you respond, what you tolerate, what you believe about yourself. What is one thing that feels like a gentle “yes” from the universe? Let yourself receive it. Celebrate your wins.
  5. What I’m Finally Ready to Trust About My Own Path. Sun sextile Jupiter brings a sense of grounded optimism and emotional expansion.
Think back to a time when you doubted your direction—when the path felt foggy, uncertain, or like you were doing something wrong. Today, with the benefit of hindsight, what do you now see that you couldn’t see then? What has the struggle taught you about your own resilience? And what are you finally ready to trust about where you’re headed—not because it’s certain, but because it feels true to you?

HAVE THE BEST WEEK AHEAD!
